IDMS Automated Migrations. Tiburon is a national leader in performing an automated IDMS migration to DB2, SQL Server or Oracle. Tiburon has assisted multiple clients in migrating from IDMS to IBM, Oracle and Microsoft technologies. Many of our migrations were driven by application requirements to implement Oracle 11i or SAP as well as corporate commitments to a standardized computing platform such as DB2/UDB or Oracle. Our Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) project methodology developed for migrations has allowed us to migrate to mainframe platforms and distributed system environments.

Our consultants have years of specific migration experience. We have found that the automated tool cost is usually only 20%-25% of the overall migration cost. By involving people with migration experience that understand the issues at hand and can anticipate challenges that may arise, we have been able to provide great value to our clients.

We have found that it can be invaluable to have Tiburon act as a buffer between our client and the automated tool vendor, looking after your best interests and functioning as your champion. Many of the tool companies have limited resources and as they run multiple projects concurrently they need to decide where those resources should be focused at a given time. Tiburon's approach to migration conversion consists of an application conversion, system configuration, application configuration and a system implementation. The application entities such as ADSA, ADS Dialogs, IDMS Batch Cobol, IDMS DC Cobol, Maps, LRF (Logical Record Facility) structures, global records, and Culprit are converted using a variety of third party and in-house developed automated tools to deliver a COBOL SQL-based application. The IDMS data structures are converted to a relational format and unload/load programs are automatically generated. Performance metrics, application requirements, and the target environment are utilized to complete the relational design. The JCL, sort parameters and Job schedule are converted using an automated process providing updated mainframe JCL or Unix system level processing. The system and application configurations are dependent on end-user environments, with Tiburon providing the ability to be a solution provider for hardware, software, training and implementation.
